"Of course what we witness here is a basic misunderstanding of the principle of the head-butt. You're meant to hit the soft part of their nose with the hard part of your forehead, not the other way round."

I'm using a bloody book cover because I can't find a better and a big movie cover anywhere in five seconds. Five seconds is my total limit, if searching takes longer, I take whatever is available, or I take nothing at all.

I remember that on time I watched Starter For 10 for Benedict Cumberbatch. Jfc, I've come a long way from that.

Anyway, Starter for 10 takes place in the  80s. It tells the story of Brian Jackson, who goes to the university of Bristol, since his passion is knowledge. He also takes part to the University Challenge, but it's some kind of obvious thing that a young straight man will always find some girls, who will make him lose his focus from school and the actual things he is passionate about.

Even though Starter for 10 is actually pretty good and funny, it's also really painful to watch. I spend most of the time covering my eyes and whispering or yelling: "No Brian don't do that, Brian, no, just stop, BRIAN NO!" But obviously he never does anything differently. Brian's character is so embarrassing. He's not even clumsy in a cute way - nobody actually is clumsy in a cute way, seriously - but purely embarrassing. But then again I don't think the movie would have much point to the people who aren't interested in the social class structure that is featured in the movie more than often.

Starter for 10 actually made me want to go university really bad. I mean all the politics and everything. (Another movie that made me want to go to university is Liberal Arts. Main character says it's 'the only time you get to do this' etc.) But then I realised going to university here in Finland, in the 2010s wouldn't be the same. But still I feel the need to have a university life like this. Obviously I wouldn't go to University Challenge and fuck everything up, or accidentally say the wrong girl's name during a kiss and fuck everything up. I would fuck everything up in a different way.

"I just missed your heart."

Hanna has lived with his dad for her whole life, training to be a perfect assassin, until she is ready. Then the fight starts - Hanna travels through Europe running from intelligence operative, Marissa Wiegler, and everyone she sends after her. And along her journey we learn more about her.

Hanna somehow reminded me of Ultraviolet at first. I have no idea why, Hanna is way better than that movie, that's for sure. So many people on IMDb aren't very happy with this movie. I don't know why. I mean it's obviously not the best action movie out there, but the story is way more interesting compared to those action movies that sells the best - the action movies which most often have straight white male as the main character and so on. Hanna... well, she is white, but she's sixteen - actually I thought she was younger, though I'm not sure she being sixteen is reliable fact - female and well, for some reason doesn't seem that straight either.

Also some of the places Hanna visited were places not often visited in movies like this. I mean it started in Kuusamo, Finland. I mean no stories happen in Finland, wow. And then there was Morocco, which was also nice and Spain. Well, Germany isn't a surprise, but all those others were wonderful.

I prefer it the way we don't get all the information on Hanna at once. That would be... well, we would know stuff about her but not her. When we learn everything slowly, it gives us more time to put all the puzzle pieces of a character. Someone once gave advice on writing, that we shouldn't withhold important information on character. I think we should do so, somewhat. If the character doesn't know everything, neither should we. And if the character does, maybe everything isn't said at once. I mean if they take their past for granted, they may not explain it at the readers / viewers. If a character on the first page / first scene pronounced everything there is to know about their origins, their past, it would kind of... make us lose interest.

Anyway I'm getting off the topic.

I really liked the movie. I don't know if it was good, but there's a difference of liking something and something being good. (Like I'd rather watch Days Of Future Past than The Hunt, but The Hunt is still a better movie, you know?) Anyway, I'd love to watch it again someday.

I feel like a total douchebag now that I haven't watched movies in a long time, let alone written a review of them. It feels like I have abandoned this blog - which is not true! It's just that... Well, it's summer, and I don't feel the need to watch movies because I can do what I want most of the time. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I've been busy watching Orphan Black. It is this Canadian science fiction show about clones. Tatiana Maslany is very, very good in it. You can recognise clones only by their voice - how many can do that?

Another thing keeping me busy is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I bought it for myself on my 18th birthday and well, I'm kinda hooked. I've finished the main plot already but  there is so much to do! Also, I'm thinking about buying them add ons, but I'm scared that if I do they will be on sale, since the Steam summer sale is on right now, and changes daily? Damn. But I'm not patient.

"What sort of parts do you play?" "Killers, mostly. Sex maniacs, perverts."

An author, Andrew Wyke sets up a game between him and his wife's lover, Milo Tindle, who comes to visit, since the wife wants a divorce.

Seriously, that's the easiest way to explain the plot. But the plot is so much more than that, it's really amazing. You wouldn't think that they'd make such an excellent thriller with only two actors. Of course Sleuth is a newer version of the film by the same name. Michael Caine was in that one too, and I believe that is just as fine, thrilling movie with only two actors.

I haven't watched the original one yet. But then again I have the feeling I never will. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see it, but some people claim almost too aggressively that it's better. I liked this one very much, and I'd hate to start liking this one less because the original one is better. I like this one, and I think the parts I like might be different, considering how different 1970s are compared to 2000s. That might sound vague, and it¨'s supposed to, since I don't want to give my favourite part away. Of course it can be given away with a few clicks since it's been discussed a lot on IMDb.

Michael Caine and Jude Law are both amazing in their roles. Somehow the chemistry is always right. There's a different kind of chemistry when they first meet, they are polite to each other, but only a little. It's like every time something happens, their whole relationship change, after every plot twist followed by another, etcetera. It's really amazing. I mean the whole thing happens really quickly, and still the characters evolve a lot - they learn stuff, they use that in their devious little game, when their only goal is to outsmart and scare one another.

I like the witty dialogue, even though it's changed entirely from the original play. Almost every line is pure gold. Not by themselves of course, but when you have even three lines together, it's really amazing. Even when they really aren't saying anything, just useless politeness, it's still... somehow you can read a lot between the lines. It's truly amazing.

Also the movie score, composed by Patrick Doyle, is brilliant. One of my favourites.

I think I have loved this movie for many years. At least for like five or six years. I've loved it ever since I've seen it, I still do. This movie gets more hate than it deserves. It's a shame remakes always have to be compared to the original, even though they are their own movie and not made for comparison.
