"Did you see that?" "Yeah I saw it, I did it!"

I'm going to put this here, even though I kind of had seen this before. But I didn't remember much of it, except when I saw scenes I was like "oh yeah, that happened", but not otherwise.

But I still keep enjoying Die Hard, even though I've seen four movies now. They are the same, but they are still exciting, they are still quite different. You know, I still was so fucking excited while watching this, I was almost going to fell off my chair when McClane and Mai were fighting and then he almost fell off the car and ugh, it just was so tense .

But you know, in three movies, you get really attached to a character. And if you are a fanboy or a fangirl, it takes less than three movies. So this movie almost broke my heart, because John and Holly are divorced, and his kids won't talk to him. It was so... I don't know. I love McClane as a character, he's still being so real in these movies, I mean even though he is kind of a hero and all that, he has regular problems. And he's being an over-protective dad to Lucy, it so... heart-breaking.

I loved Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Lucy McClane, and Justin Long as Matthew Farrell. And I'm kind of shipping those too, even though John didn't see very happy about Matthew being a bit interested in Lucy - and the other way round.

I can't wait till It's a good day to die hard, because we can see Jack! I thought about Jack myself, and he hasn't had any fucking lines in these four movies. What? Well, I'm so glad he's in the 5th movie.

Why do I love Looper

Looper (directed by Rian Johnson) was the best movie that was made last year. Well, in my opinion, because you may think it's something else, something so much better known and all that shit. But I liked Looper, and being not so well known (at least not in here) is one of the many reasons I loved the film.

So, since I haven't made any posts since that Barney Stinson from HIMYM appreciation post, I thought I could make Looper appreciation post. since I loved every second of that movie.

And here I will give you a list of reasons WHY I enjoyed it so much. And I'm also giving you some screenshots from the film. Ugh, I just realised that there is no screenshots of Sarah and Cid, well, I guess it's OK.

Let's start with this brief summary of the whole movie:

Joe is a looper. Their job is to eliminate people that criminal organisations send to them from the future. And the only rule they have is:
Don't let the target escape. even if the target is you.

  • The whole movie is a quite like a summary of my taste in movies. It has everything I love and enjoy in movies, there is nothing I would need more to it. Even if it has very few actors, very few characters mentioned by name, I wouldn't add characters. And yes, I will list all those things I love on their own, because what would be the point?
  • Great actors and simply great acting. Joseph Gordon Levitt was brilliant here, because I think he had  the most... difficult job here. Yes, what do I know, I'm not an actor, but still, when you think about it: Acting with Bruce Willis, or more like acting the same character as Bruce Willis... Which one here is more respected, an older actor who's done this longer? Willis. So, JGL has to do his best as being... like Willis, because they share the characters. Some critic was complaining how JGL tried to act too much like Willis, but I think he kind of had to. Because when two actors are the same character, there can be so much that is different, especially if they are older and younger, like here, but still there has to be something that it is the same, that makes them the same person.
  • Brilliant writing, amazing story. I didn't even know the story when I went to see this with Elli. I just had to see a movie because of School, and I just took the first one that looked quite interesting, even though the theatre hadn't put the plot in the Internet. I just thought that hey, that has JGL in it, let's see that. That was it. I mean, when you understood the plot, it was all so brilliant. When I understood what the movie was about, when I realised that this is the film my dad has been talking about, I started love it before it even ended

  • Science Fiction. There was so much science fiction things in it, well d'uh, the genre, and I've loved Science Fiction since I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show. So yeah, by science fiction I mean these little things besides the genre:
  • Time travel hasn't been invented yet, but in 30 years from now, it will have been. That line was the one that made the time travel thing in this one even better. There is time travel, but not yet, it will be, and some people know about it already. Like... there's so much time travel shit here already, it's so good. Travelling in time is one of my favourite things in books, films and TV-shows, or just in general, not even in fiction. I mean in real life, I would love it too. Why else would  I watch Doctor Who? I love time travel!
  •  Paradoxes, or well, a paradox. There was a paradox, a really, really huge one. I mean, it was so huge, that the ninth doctor would've gone insane, and in Whoniverse anyway, it would've been so... I don't know. It was so huge, that it would've bugged me so much more than it does, because it was like... did they think about the paradox, or did they mean to create this paradox? It bugs me, of course, but without the whole paradox, the story would've been so much... emptier. I mean, if the world would've worked like it should've worked, then... what was the point? You know..
  • The whole story took place in the future. And even in this films presents future, which is like... futures future, you know what I mean? I mean, there was 2044 and 2074 in the same time... kind of. I love films and stories and all sort of stuff that take place in future (I'm repeating the word future too much, aren't I?), because there is so much more... artistic freedom in that, than taking place in present or past. Well, you know, if your story requires that kind of freedom. If a story takes place in the future, there can be so much more new things, so much more... everything, everything you can imagine! It's simply brilliant

  • Great scenery, or as some people on the Internet would call it, scenery porn. I mean, the scenery wasn't as astonishing as in some films, some TV-shows and such, what I mean is, there wasn't too much scenery, like... we didn't have to watch some fucking scenery all the time. But when there was, it was somewhat beautiful, it... gave a great picture of where everything happened. Yeah, that is what scenery is for, but... still.
  • Some little details in what they were shooting. Like when they were actually filming the watch that younger Joe looked at, and then older Joe looked at it too, about 10-15 minutes later. And her photo on older Joe's watch, I loved it. And then there was this cloud (a photo above) that was always there when Joe was waiting for his loop. It was there. It always was there, and it was... somewhat annoying cloud, but it still was there, and it's now part of the movie. Because when I think about Looper, I usually think about that scene, if I don't start to think about the whole plot and stuff

  • There was the right amount of action in the movie. Ok, well, let's be honest: I don't know about action, because I'm not even sure how action is defined in movies. So, let's say it this way: there was violence. And it was just the right amount of it. Because I enjoy... violence in films, even though it makes me sound very sick, but it's quite... liberating. It's just like violence in the games, except that video games are more liberating, but still
  • And when there is action (and now I'm actually talking about the genre, not the thing that I can't tell apart from simple violence), Bruce Willis is being always so amazingly brilliant. I don't even care, if he's "the same in every movie", like some people say, because I've liked all his characters I've seen so far. And Looper is the film that made me love Bruce Willis.
  • The fact that there was actually a TK-mutation. It made people able to use telekinesis, even though it wasn't much. People had hoped that they'd become superheros, but they can only like... put a coin in the air, and that's it. ...Until we meet Sarah and Cid. Sarah can do a bit more than this coin trick, but Cid can do so much more. But the whole thing was like a reference to X-men: Last Stand, I mean... there was so many parallels between Cid and Phoenix / Jean Gray. Yes, it made me sad, because Jean Gray always makes me sad, but it was still kind of cool. Because there is a person, who has the great, great power and ability to do something, but then it is out of control and... Just like Jean Gray tried to put all this away, and she accidentally created Phoenix: this is just like when Cid is just a kid and he can't control it either. Even if their "not controlling it" is quite different.

  • Life in the day, which is when we see how Joe was doing the 30 years before he was sent back, and he changed the story. Anyway, we didn't hear a word from his future. There wasn't any dialogue in it. There just were simply 30 years, and we know exactly how it went, even if nobody says anything about it: we see how Joe is doing first, and then how he starts to.. well. And we can see how he changes again. We see all those years very quickly, in a very few scenes, but we still know everything
  • And this brings me to how older Joe met his wife. I simply love that scene, I mean they didn't ruin their first meeting with too much... sugary. It was quite simple scene: We still can't here a word what Joe is saying, before she turns around, but when Joe raises his eyebrows a bit, his facial expression is telling us everything. We can just imagine what he was saying to her. Especially when she just gives him a finger
  • The fact that we don't know Joe's wife's name. She just is there, being astoundingly loving and beautiful, taking care of him when he is at his worst, because all this time being a looper..., being killed by Rainmaker's men... For us she's there for at most, 5 minutes, but for Joe... she was there all the time. And he never tells her name to anyone: not even younger Joe. We don't know who she is. It makes her quite mysterious, and even though I adore her, I don't know a thing about her.

  • Just the right amount of romance. Older Joe and his wife, younger Joe and that prostitute, whose name I can't even remember, and younger Joe and Sarah. There is something, but there is never too much of it. I don't like it when movie just takes romance and shoves it to your face. I love romance when it's subtle, when it's eclectic. (There is few exceptions, like The Fountain for example)
  • The ending. It was something I did not expect. I hate the endings that are so predictable you want to have the writer's head on a stick. But in Looper, it was perfect. It was tragic, it was devastating, it was sad to even those who had a happy ending in the movie, but it was perfect.

"Hey, listen, we got a report of a guy coming through here with, uh, eight reindeer..."

"...Yeah, they said he was a jolly, old, fat guy with a snowy, white beard. Cute little red and white suit. I'm surprised you didn't see him."

Yes, after a pause I continued with watching Die Hard's. I'm still enjoying them: even if I know there's still sequels, I was so horrified that McClane and Zeus were going to die. Seriously, the suspense in this one was brilliant. Willis was brilliant, and so was Samuel L. Jackson. Especially the ... thrill, between them, you know? They worked well as the team, their work was brilliant. Well, I already knew that Willis kinda is McClane, but Jackson was also so natural as Zeus, and together they were perfect.

If I had to say which one of these has been my favourite, the order would be: 1, 3 and then 2.

"Did you know that Ted Bundy's first dog, a collie, was named Lassie?"

This is why I'm really here. American Psycho was a new film I saw in 2013. Only problem I had with the movie: it said it was uncut, but seriously... I thought it would be really violent and all that, but it wasn't. So what the fuck is "cut" version like, because seriously. But someone said that there's only 20 more seconds in the uncut version. How lame is that?

Especially when I was warned like "It's so distressing and horrifying" and blah blah blah, but I didn't... think so. I don't know.

I haven't still finished the book, but this movie was slightly different. The order of things that happened was different. And I think there's a bit more in the book: I mean the part where he actually is nuts. I mean in the movie: what was there? Only the ATM said "Feed me stray cats", that was all. And the fact that one of the people he killed, well... it seemed like he wasn't dead after all.

I think I need to see this again. Or just read to book and try to figure the movie out too.

I really enjoyed Bale's role, he was brilliant. Because he didn't over do it, because Bateman hid everything so well, but then again he lost it at parts and just... you know.

[I'm ashamed of my really short bad review but I don't want to delete all the reviews that are really short and bad. With love, Misto from 2014.]

"No fucking shit, lady, does it sound like I'm ordering pizza?!"

So, I've now watched the third new movie this year. Actually I'm taking new films faster than expected, I thought I would watch like three in a month, because I'm afraid of new movies, and I will watch American Psycho this month, and I don't think that will be a nice new thing. Anyway.

I don't know what I expected from Die Hard. I've kinda seen the fourth one already, but I only like.. half watched it. But still, I kinda expected more from this, and by more I don't mean like "more quality" I mean "more action" and all that shit. Because this one was so much better than I expected. Because I kinda expected that Bruce Willis would be not so natural in this, I thought he'd be like "Oh I'm so used to all this shit", but no, it was the first movie, and the first thing to John McClane, so he was wonderfully natural in it. I mean, he was actually shocked and in panic, and he was even arguing to himself and all that was just brilliant!

And I seriously just found another fictional character that is so... I don't know, a character that has something special, not just being a bad ass. I mean McClane is a perfect character, at least in this one. I don't know, if he changes a lot in the sequels. But hey, this was so fucking good, I could even read the fucking book.

I've missed the part where my taste in movies has gotten so much more into action. I mean come on: Jack Reacher, and then suddenly I wanted to see all the Die Hards... What is this?

"The lawyer is all yours."

I would love to say that I didn't do any new years resolutions. The fact is I did - few days late but still! I decided I would list all the new films I saw this year, and I would tell you something about everyone of them. And not just films but books as well. I bet you all I watch more films than I read books, even if the ones I've read before would count.
But so, we shall start.

We watched a Wallander film in Swedish class. The story and the movie seemed interesting, but you know what kinda ruined the whole thing? We had to watch it with Swedish subtitles, so I'm sure I didn't get something. And we also had to make a list of the characters and important scenes and stuff. So I couldn't just enjoy the film, because I had to search for names and little facts that could be useful - and try to think in Swedish.

Anyway, Wallander is a familiar character, we've watched Wallander films in Swedish before, in middle school. There was this one movie that was particularly interesting, but we never finished it, and I don't remember its name.

This one was about... drug business, and - surprise, surprise - couriers. And I wish I could tell you more, but all my mental images about this movie are mixed with another movie that I went to see in cinemas yesterday. It was way more interesting, and I didn't have to understand Swedish to watch it.

***

I saw the trailer of Jack Reacher when I was about to see Looper. The bass in the trailer was so awesome and I wanted to see again. Aisha was kind enough to come watch it with me, even though she loathes Reacher.

But  I enjoyed the movie. Except that I was pretty sure that one character was played by Tom Hardy because Elli said it was him, so... But it wasn't Tom Hardy. My head is just so much in Dark Knight Rises, I can't help it.

But the plot was very interesting. And the movie was filled with action and adrenalin. Well, some may say that not enough, but dude, that was enough for me. And I hadn't seen Tom Cruise in any movie before. And I mean it, I hadn't seen him acting - ever. But he was pretty good as Reacher, I mean it kinda suited him? I can't say that "he's the only one who could play Reacher", because I'm sure somebody else would've been good too, but I thought that Cruise was brilliant, and I don't have a need to complain about how bad he was or how someone else would've been better. I think the casting was great.

If you've seen the trailer, of read about the movie, or seen the book it was based on, you know the deal: James Barr is accused of shooting five people, but he asks for Jack Reacher. And while Barr lies in coma, Reacher comes and after a while he starts to think if Barr actually was guilty.

I don't know how Aisha doesn't like Reacher as a character. I mean, I don't want to say that she's wrong, I mean she has an opinion, but so do I. I think that Reacher was adorably arrogant and sassy. I especially loed the scene, where he tried to call Barr's lawyer, but the "bad guys" had her, and he talked to them, and he hung up, and called them again, and then after a while hung up again, I thought that was hilarious.

*****

Oh, and by the way, as I was saying about books... I'm currently reading Clockwork Orange. I've read it before, and I have seen the movie (two times), but it's still so fucking good. Anyone who likes reading, and has trouble to find something a bit different from all this fantasy and regular bullshit, Clockwork Orange is just brilliant.

list of 21 great movies in alphabetical order

1. (500) days of Summer

One of the very few "love stories" I like, even though this isn't one. I loved the story, it's more realistic than any other story, because in most of the stories, everything works. Here it doesn't, because they both are looking for something completely different. I especially loved this movie because of the actors: not just Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Dechanel, but also Chloë Grace Moretz and Clark Gregg. Also the special effects were cool. Not that this kind of movie needs them, but I'm talking about the fact that when he arrived to her party, we could see expectations and reality at the same time. It was great.

2. A Clockwork Orange

I read the book for Finnish classes (actually I was supposed to read a normal detective story, by Finnish author but it was boring and I went with this instead), and I loved the book. Especially the translation of this is good, Moog Konttinen is a genius when it comes to translations. Well, the movie was translated by someone else, but it was very good also. Some parts were distressing, but I was still able to enjoy it. Malcolm McDowell was brilliant in this one, he's just perfect. I can't imagine anyone else playing Alex as well as he did, because he looked perfect for the role, his voice was perfect for Alex and he also acted it very well. I mean, you can't find all three easily from anyone else, if someone decided to make this film again. But yeah, who would do that, when Kubrick made a perfect film for a book?

3. Batman Begins

The first part of Dark Knight trilogy. This is the film that actually made me love Batman, because neither Tim Burton nor Schumacher made Batman's character brilliant or fascinating enough. Nolan understood something that they didn't. I wish I could tell you what it is, but I would need a bigger Batman fan to do that, and my dad is busy. I had difficulties to start Nolan's Batman trilogy, because I thought that Batman Begins would be so boring. The summary, or whatever, in the back of the DVD didn't sound tempting. But then I just watched it and wow - it was brilliant. All the respect I had for Michael Keaton's Batman vanished, when I saw Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, it was... something new.

4. Iron Sky

When Iron Sky started in Cinema, the first thought was "Wow, this is actually a Finnish movie". And yes, it indeed was. I usually don't feel very proud of my country, but on that moment I did. Because if any other country had this idea, it would've been... well, you can just imagine what it would've been like if it had been a Hollywood movie, if you know what I mean. But no, it was made by Finnish, German and Australians, and it was perfect. The idea is so fucking brilliant, it's so sick and idiotic, but it's still so brilliant. And they couldn't have done a better job, because that idea was so... fragile, that it could have been easily ruined. But no it wasn't.

5. Kick-Ass

I first saw this movie at my friend Sandra's birthday party. At first the movie seemed like a stupid, typical American comedy, but it was so much more than that. Because anyone who loves Superheroes can easily relate to Dace Lizewski's character. And the variation of different characters is brilliant, especially among the main characters, Dave, and then Big-Daddy and Hit-Girl, and Red Mist. Everyone is different, everyone is unique. And I'm so excited for the sequel. Hey, it has Jim Carrey in it!

6. Looper

I think Looper is also very underrated. I went to see this with Elli, and it was brilliant. Someone somewhere was complaining, how Joseph Gordon Levitt was copying Bruce Willis' way to act, but I think that's not just a bad thing, because if they are playing the same character, there has to be something same as well as something different, when they are older and younger. They had also made JGL look like Bruce Willis, and it was just brilliant. The plot was very interesting, and the end was something that at least Elli and I couldn't expect. I'm looking forward to have this one on DVD (or on my hard drive, since there's no room for anymore DVDs in my shelf)

7. Men in Black III

You could think that making a third Men in Black film would be just waste of money and time and everything, but it actually is my favourite one of MIB movies, because time travel, and Griffin was so sweet. We learned so many new things, like how K became K, about J's dad, and that Andy Warhol is actually an MIB agent and that Mick Jagger and Lady Gaga are aliens. And nothing in any other MIB movie can beat that "Mommy, president is drinking my milk" part. Will Smith will always be perfect as J, but now we learned that someone else can also play perfect K.

8. Micmacs

When people who were learning French or German went to see movies, the plot of this movie sounded so lame. "Main character dad steps into a landmine, and the main character gets a bullet in his head and he can die anytime, and as a pacifist he starts a fight against those people who made those mines and guns." That sounded so lame. But it wasn't lame, because the summary of the plot doesn't have all those little details and the humor that is actually in the movie. If you don't mind watching a movie in French, then I can just say that watch this, it was hilarious.

9. Party Monster

I can't even remember why I watched this movie, but I watched it from YouTube the first time. Then I wanted the movie, and I had to order it all the way from... UK or US, I can't even remember. It was pretty different than all the movies I watched then. I actually watched this last night with Sandra, after a long pause, and it was still pretty cool. I mean, Macaulay Culkin is perfect for Michael Alig's role, and Seth Green is perfect James st. James. I also have this book, but it's in English. And because all the Skink-la-da scrodle, it's really difficult to read.

10. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

I saw the trailer of this in theaters, and I said to Roosa "We need to see this", and she was like "Dude, it's on DVD already." So.. I bought it. Yes, I bought it before I saw it, but it was a win, because I really enjoyed it. And it's one of the very few movies my sister also watches with me. I love Scott, and I also love Ramona, they are so adorable together!

11. Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows

Or, as we on the Internet know it, Sherlock Holmes: A gay of gay. Ok, that joke doesn't make sense to anyone, but it's OK. I prefer this to Sherlock Holmes, because this has more... sense in it. Ok, the other one is pretty cool too, but who made up the main villain in the first one? Seriously? Because in this one, it's Moriarty. And there's no one as great as Moriarty. The only thing missing from this is Irene Adler, but it seems that many people hate Irene, I don't know why. But this  movie is very enjoyable, UNTIL it comes to... The reichenbach. Reichenbach is the curse of every Sherlock Holmes fan, it doesn't matter which serie you watch or do you just read books, it's just a curse. It was a curse to even sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who would've wanted to end everything there, but he couldn't. At least the end of this gives us more hope than the final episode of season two of Sherlock.

12. Sleuth

I haven't even seen the original version of this, but I don't care, because Michael Caine and Jude Law are brilliant. The story is about two men, a writer Alan Wyke (Caine) and Milo Tindle (Law). Tindle is sleeping with Wyke's wife, and he comes to the house to ask for him to give his wife a divorce. Then everything develops into a game, where they try to outsmart and scare each other. I would love to see the original play on the stage, it would be brilliant. I think very few people has seen this... But this is brilliant.

13. The Dark Knight Rises

Do you know who is perfect? Bane is. The Dark Knight Rises is my favourite part of Dark Knight trilogy. I wish I had seen it at theaters, but yeah, it's too late. The Casting in this one is also so fucking perfect: Christian Bale (as always), Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Gary Oldman (as always) and Michael Caine (as always). The whole thing was perfect, UNTIL you get to the part where this movie takes your heart out of your chest and stomps on it for few times. And then you think you get to a happier part, the very final minute of the movie, and the movie starts to stomp on your heart again.

14. The Fountain

Oh, another movie that likes to stomp on your heart. I bought this beause of Hugh Jackman, and then I went to see comments about this movie, and they were all like "i cried so much and this was so confusing", and I was like fuck. I forced my parents to see this before I did. Mom didn't like it, it was too confusing for her too. So, I watched this alone, and I cried so fucking much. It was so heartbreaking, I don't even... But I don't see what the fuss is all about, what part of this was confusing?

15. The Hunger Games

I do love this movie, and I love the books, I love everything about this. I mean, let's compare Katniss to one "loved" main character in today's society, Bella Swan. Jesus Christ, Katniss is so much better and actually so much more realistic! And that girl has her priorities set right. Anyway, the story here is brilliant, and this is also very heartbreaking. One word: Rue. And I especially love Haymitch's character, he's so... cool and... I don't know. I just love him.

16. The Prestige

Oh look, Wolverine, Batman, Alfred, Black Widow and David Bowie in the same movie! And directed by Christopher Nolan. I started to watch this simply because of Hugh Jackman, and it was like... the first three minutes, and he was dead. Like oh. Thank you. But then again... What do you know?

17. The Rocky Horror Picture Show

This is kinda my first favourite movie. Because hardly anything I saw before this is still making my favourite movies -list. I haven't seen this ages, but I've seen this once on stage, and it was brilliant. Except that the audience didn't shout like they were suppose to, and my dad made himself look like a fool, IT WAS SO EMBARASSING, YOU HAVE NO IDEA. But Tim Curry is absolutely brilliant, and I still love him. And every time I see Susan Sarandon somewhere I'm like "That's Janet", and I feel like I should sing. Yes.

18. The Series Of Unfortunate events

I loved this movie, and again this is one of the very few that my sister wants to watch with me. She's crazy about this movie, especially Sunny. Well, anyone would be crazy about Sunny, she's so adorable and sassy, even though she can't talk. I've tried to read the books, but I got stuck at the fifth book, because I just got tired of all that, I don't know. My sister has almost read them all, apparently, and she got the game for Christmas. But Baudelaire orphans are all so adorable and sweet and brilliant, and I love them, and I just want to hold them and tell them it's going to be alright, but I guess that then I would get killed by Count Olaf.

19. What's your number?

The name of this movie can get you into weird situations. Ok, maybe not. But I went to see this with Tiina, and even though I was like "OK, it was good, but I don't know if I'm going to watch it for second time", I've seen this three times. It's a romantic comedy, and it's predictable, but it's still hilarious, and Anna Faris is so adorable, why haven't I figured that out before?

20. X-men: The last stand

Look, I'm at number 20 and I just got to my favourite ones. From the original trilogy, The Last Stand is my favourite, EVEN THOUGH the director ruined Phoenix saga, like some people said, and even though he de-powered Rogue and Magneto and all that shit. I like this movie, even though I have to say good bye to so many characters, like my first favourite character, and Jean, who actually died in the second movie, but you know, she's Phoenix, so she comes back to life. And that's not a spoiler, the whole movie is based on that. That and the cure they make for the mutants.

21. X-men Origins: Wolverine

The whole movie about my favourite mutant, and also my favourite superhero, Logan aka Wolverine. I love this movie, even though there is so much bullshit in this. They ruined Deadpool, and why the fuck is Victor Creed a brother of Logan? But still, I love Jackman in this movie, and OK, it's the movie universe, they can do what they want with this, I can live with that, because I don't have to live in that Universe while reading the comics, do I?
